Eastern Railway (ER), in an attempt to clear the extra rush for the upcoming Durga puja and Diwali season has now decided to introduce some special trains. ER will run a total of 144 special and superfast trains from 1st October- 3rd December. Each special train has a capacity to accommodate 1200 passengers. The travelers can start booking the trains from 9th August. However, booking of all the trains will be available from all Computerized Reservation Offices on and from 9th August for up direction only.
Besides, during the core period of Puja holidays from Panchami Puja to Lakshmi Puja days there will be a total of 40 trains of Puja Special trains. Last year, Eastern Railway rolled out a total of 126 Puja Special Trains. Eastern Railway is providing 1.14 lakhs extra reserved berths/seats and 75,240 extra unreserved seats by running Puja Special trains this year.
Easter Railway, one of the 16 zones of the Indian Railways (IR) is based in Kolkotta and segregated into 4 divisions including Howrah, Malda, Sealdah, and Asansol for better administration. To deal with the long distance passenger rush, ER operates a large number of high-speed long distance trains.
