Chandigarh’s Union Territory (UT) in order to benefit the passengers, has decided to set up pre-paid taxi and auto rickshaw booths at the railway station and other popular tourism spots of the city. The state transport authority (STA) has already introduced pre-paid taxi services at Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) in Sector 17 and outside PGI, as well as the Airport and ISBT-Sector 43.
“STA has also been asked to check installation of electronic meters by autos. Tourists are unaware of rates fixed by STA and, therefore, pre-paid service is the only way to check overcharging. The concept will eventually be extended to all places of tourist interest in city,” said an official of UT Chandigarh.
